Croatia´s Olic in doubt for Euro 2012

Experienced Wolfsburg striker Ivica Olic is in doubt for Croatia s Euro 2012 campaign due to a thigh injury.

Olic, 32, picked up the problem during his team s 1-1 friendly draw against Norway on Sunday, and may not regain fitness in time for the tournament.

Croatia coach Slaven Bilic may now be forced to reconsider his attacking options ahead of their Euro 2012 opener against Republic of Ireland on June 10.

I cannot guarantee that Olic will play at the Euros, Croatia squad doctor Zoran Bahtijarevic told Sportske Novosti.

We did the first medical exam at the stadium in Oslo to check the flexibility of the muscle. It seemed fine, but he will undergo a complete scan on Monday in Munich.

I m an optimist. So far the medical evidence suggests he cou…

Haaland targets all-round improvements after flying start to new campaign

Erling Haaland is aiming to become a better all-round forward in the 2024-25 campaign after starting the season with a goal in Manchester City s 2-0 win over Chelsea.

Haaland put City ahead after 18 minutes at Stamford Bridge, taking in Bernardo Silva s pass and bursting between two challenges before clipping a neat finish over Robert Sanchez.

The Norwegian had previously started both of his Premier League campaigns with City by scoring a brace, against West Ham in 2022-23 and Burnley in 2023-24.

He is the sixth player to score his team s first goal in three different Premier League seasons and the second to do so for City, after David Silva (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16).

Across the last three seasons, Haaland has also scored two more Premier League goals i…

Southampton must build on Arsenal display for ´vital´ games ahead, says Martin

Russell Martin wants to see his Southampton side replicate their performances against the Premier League’s biggest clubs when they face opponents closer to them in the table.

Following their return from the international break, the Saints face Everton and Wolves, but start by welcoming Leicester City to St. Mary s this Saturday.

Having watched his team go toe-to-toe with Arsenal in their last encounter, Martin is targeting the same approach in the upcoming games that he’s labelled “absolutely vital”.

“We’ve had Newcastle away; Manchester United at home, where for half an hour we’ve been outstanding; and here,” Martin said.

“Now we have to transfer that into the games that are going to really define our season, and we have three or four …

Liverpool v Leicester City: Rodgers aims for continued progress in 2015

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has made continued progress his priority for 2015, beginning with Thursday s clash against Leicester City.

After pushing Manchester City all the way in last season s title race, Liverpool have struggled to live up to those standards in the first half of the current campaign.

Nevertheless, Rodgers remains delighted with his team s progress over the past 12 months and has called for more of the same next year.

As a year, it s been another one of progress, he said.  The beginning of this season wasn t quite what we wanted it to be, but over the course of 2014 we ve definitely made significant strides forward.

We ve been consistent in that we want to be a team based on high performance and, in the year, only two teams pick…

Russian media cheer Euro 2008 quarter-final berth

Russian newspapers voiced their delight Thursday with their national team winning a Euro 2008 quarter-final berth for the first time in over 20 years.

Thank you, (coach Guus) Hiddink! Even his compatriots did not expect in vain that he would bring Russia into quarter-finals, the official Rossiyskaya Gazeta exulted in a frontpage report headlined We broke through the Swedish wall.

No Messi decision before 2023

Despite recent claiming otherwise, Lionel Messi is NOT close to joining Inter Miami or any other club at the moment, according to Fabrizio Romano.

David Beckham s club are indeed interested in bringing the seven-time Ballon d Or winner to Florida and are pushing to make it happen. Paris Saint-Germain are also very keen to extend Messi s contract, which expires at the end of the season, by another year, and it s no big secret that Barcelona would love to have their former talisman back, having apparently sorted out the financial issues which drove him out in the first place in 2021.

However, Messi remains fully focused on his exploits with Argentina at the World Cup. He delivered in his own style by providing a goal and an assist as his team bagged a crucial victory ove…

Bale: Euphoria of Euro 2016 can inspire Wales against Hungary

Gareth Bale believes the euphoric feeling of Wales run to the semi-finals at Euro 2016 will spur Ryan Giggs side on against Hungary.

Following a 2-0 victory over Azerbaijan on Saturday, Wales head into their final qualifying match knowing a win will be enough to secure a place at Euro 2020.

Bale scored three goals at the previous finals as Wales with Chris Coleman in charge reached the last four in France, going out to eventual champions Portugal.

The Real Madrid forward has claimed Wales can use the experiences gained from three years ago, plus their failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, as inspiration heading into Tuesday s crucial clash in Cardiff.

I think we can use both of [the experiences] to our advantage, Bale told a news conference.

12-12-2009 Tottenham vs Wolves

Wolves will travel to White Hart Lane with little more only the smallest hope that they can pull off a surprise result against a tottenham team playing with flair and confidence.

Tottenham have had their strongest start to a campaign for years and are still riding high on the back of their 9-1 triumph against a poor Wigan team two weeks ago. Manager Harry Redknapp has done what he does best motivated his players to play without fear and with the belief that they can beat anybody. They currently lie in fourth place in the league just one place behind their neighbours and arch rivals Arsenal. With the likes of Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane all vying for places up front, and with the pacy and creative Aaron Lennon back in his berth on the right of midfield Tottenha…

Pittsburgh stands at 1-1 but is coming off an ugly outing at New England in Week 2, in which the offense struggled for gains and has the Black and Yellow faithful calling for a change at quarterback.
